My Blog's aim is to promote and encourage others to participate in the wonderful hobby that is Moth-trapping.
So why do we do it? well for some people it is to get an insight into the world of Moths, for others it is to build a list of species much like 'Twitching' in the Bird world.
The reason I do it....you never know what you might find when you open up that trap!
I hope to show what different species inhabit our Country by getting people aware of what is out there.
On this Blog you will find up-to-date records and pictures.
I run a trap regularly in my garden here in Hertfordshire and enjoy doing field trips to various localities within Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.

Please also check out the links in the sidebar to the right for other people's Blogs and informative Websites.

Thanks for looking & happy Mothing!

First Moth record of the year!

10' or 2010 to be precise got off the mark last night.
I decided to use my 40w Actinic as the 160w MBT bulb does not seem to do that well early season.
I was greatful for a single Winter Moth at about 9pm... over four hours after i'd put the trap on.

I decided to turn the trap off at 12am as it once again got quite chilly and wet.

Catch Report Sunday 17th January 2010
Hatfield Broad Oak - 40w Actinic

Macro Moths

1x Winter Moth [NFY]

  1. Bennyboy, I'm about 300 miles N of you and too had a go last night from 5pm - 10.30pm. Result! 3 December Moths and a Chestnut. The list kicks off!

  2. Good going Stewart! thats a great catch for this time of year, I never expect more than 1 Moth per night during winter for some reason my Garden doesn't produce when its cold. I will be going to my local Woodland probably friday night and hopefully add more to the site list! Yep trying to beat my count for last year, good luck to you too.
