My Blog's aim is to promote and encourage others to participate in the wonderful hobby that is Moth-trapping.
So why do we do it? well for some people it is to get an insight into the world of Moths, for others it is to build a list of species much like 'Twitching' in the Bird world.
The reason I do it....you never know what you might find when you open up that trap!
I hope to show what different species inhabit our Country by getting people aware of what is out there.

I run a trap regularly in my garden here in Hertfordshire and enjoy doing field trips to various localities within Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.

First moths of the year

Hello all.
I recorded my first moth of the year on Saturday in my kitchen, a hibernating Mompha subbistrigella fell out of our blind as I unrolled it fully to measure how long it was in preparation for buying a new one.
Yesterday night I ran the trap for the first time this year, and after about 2 hours the first Winter Moth was recorded for the year.
Leaving it running all night I was rewarded by another Winter Moth and singles of Acleris schalleriana and Chestnut.

Nice to get the ball rolling.

    Still waiting for my first moth of the year. I've had moths on January 1st., but not this year. First moth isn't going to happen any time soon either. Temps are not forecast to rise above freezing today. (northern Arkansas, USA)

    Hi Marvin.
    Really nice to hear from a fellow moth blogger..Stateside! When do you start seeing moths typically? Here the season starts from about the end of April, peaks late June and then slows down during September.

    Hi Ben, Looks like I am lagging behind in the wine race. I missed a trick on the 5th, didn't realise the temperature had risen to 8 or 9 deg. C. I put the trap on at 11.00pm after the football had finished and managed to get a couple of micros but missed the best part of the evening. Best of luck mate
